I created KAMIYA inspired by kami (神): Japanese Shinto gods and otherworldly spirits.

Kamiya are modern kami born from people’s emotions. Each one carries a small fortune bag that reflects its personality. Legend says that inside each bag are little fortunes or secret messages. Kamiya bring blessings.

Oniya exist on the opposite end of the spectrum. These spirits do not carry fortune bags because they are cursed, consumed by their own inner darkness. Instead, they hold an object representing their theme in their hands. Through Oniya, I wanted to express the duality of human psychology and emotion. Oniya bring lessons.

There is both light and darkness within us all.

The emotional structure of the KAMIYA universe

Many Kamiya and Oniya exist as mirrored counterparts, revealing how light and darkness often originate from the same emotional source.

Each embodies a specific emotional state: blessings and lessons that exist as mirrored pairs. This structure allows the world to expand endlessly, with each character reflecting a different facet of human emotion, memory, and inner conflict. Together, they form a universe meant to be discovered piece by piece.
